CBS News reported that Joseph Chuba faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, violent battery, and two counts of hate crimes.
The accused stabbed the child 26 times, while he stabbed the woman more than 12 times.
According to the Will County Sheriff's Office in Illinois, at approximately 11:38 a.m., the woman called 911 and said the homeowner was attacking her with a knife while she ran to the bathroom to call 911.
Officials say when police arrived at the scene, they found Chuba sitting outside on the ground near the driveway of the house with a laceration on his forehead, while security personnel inside found two victims, the 32-year-old woman and a 6-year-old boy.
The woman was taken to the hospital in serious condition, while the boy was taken in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead, and their names were not published.
The American police said that the accused did not speak, but investigators were able to determine that he targeted the victims because they were Muslims, due to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in occupied Palestine.
